ConnectSport is supporting the official launch of the Global Sport and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Baseline and Initial Impact Report by the Commonwealth.
This landmark report, which will be unveiled at an event in Canada House in London on February 4, is the first global baseline study measuring how physical education, physical activity and sport contribute to the SDGs. The report provides a foundation for ongoing analysis and advocacy, helping people better understand how sport contributes to sustainable development and how it can be used to create social, economic and environmental benefits.
At the event, a panel discussion will focus on bringing together leading voices from across academia, private sector, policy and practice to evaluate the position and critical role of measurement in underscoring the impact of sport on the achievement of the SDGs.
With the Commonwealth Games, the 12th Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting and Commonwealth Heads Of Government Meeting taking place this year, this event comes at a pivotal moment. It offers a chance to reflect on how the 56 Commonwealth countries can better embed sport and SDG indicators into both grassroots and elite sport investments. This baseline also provides a common foundation for working together, helping to increase impact now and build a stronger role for sport in sustainable development beyond 2030.
