Safe and effective practice: Mind provides new guidance

National mental health charity Mind has developed new guidance on safe and effective practice for those delivering physical activity and mental health programmes.

With more programmes taking place across the country – in local parks to mental health inpatient wards - the guidance will provide deliverers with the confidence to safely and effectively support the mental health of participants as well as those involved in delivery.

Mind guidance 3Hayley Jarvis, Head of Physical Activity for Mind, said: “With 1.6million people facing long waits for mental health support, safe and inclusive physical activity can help ease the pressure. Our new safe and effective practice support package give coaches and providers the confidence to support participants while safeguarding their own wellbeing - helping the sector deliver trusted programmes that make a real difference.

“By working shoulder to shoulder with coaches and providers, we’ve developed a support package that brings our guidance to life and helps the sector deliver inclusive programmes. Our goal is to make sure everyone living with a mental health problem can access physical activity that feels safe, supportive and effective."
