February to mark Football v Homophobia month of action

Football v Homophobia’s Month of Action for 2025 will take place during February.

FvH, which has been running for over 15 years, is an initiative delivered by Pride Sports UK that seeks to reduce discrimination related to sexual orientation, gender expression and gender identity at all levels of the game through education, resources and awareness-raising.

Every February, clubs, leagues, fan groups and organisations are invited to register as FvH champions and reaffirm their commitment to creating LGBTQ+-inclusive football spaces in which everyone can be themselves and thrive.

The English FA’s recently published Grassroots Disciplinary Review reflected a near 20% increase in reports of anti-gay language and behaviour in matches at Steps 5 and below. The Review also shows more proven charges of homophobia at grassroots level than for any other type of discrimination.

Meanwhile data from Kick It Out released last year suggests anti-LGBTQ+ hate related to football is continuing to rise online. The charity, which is funded by the game’s governing bodies, also said that reports received of transphobia online have climbed by 183%.

The FvH Month of Action will begin on Saturday 1 February, in what is also LGBT+ History Month in the UK. A number of clubs and organisations have already confirmed the dates of their designated games / tournaments. Find out more at the link below.
