#TimeTogether: Women and girls urged to reclaim right to sport

The charity Women in Sport has been staging its annual #TimeTogether campaign.

The campaign, which this year runs from October 21st to November 1st, encourages mums and mother figures to team up with their teenage daughters to claim back their right to sport and exercise.

The charity, which this year marks the 40th anniversary of its foundation, has teamed up with sports providers around the UK to host women’s and girls’ sessions throughout October.

Whether someone is already active or just getting back into sport, there are lots of opportunities for them to try out, from rugby, to squash, from climbing, to basketball.

Women are being urged to check out activities taking place near them in October and discover new sports to try with their daughter or a teenage girl in their life.

Women in Sport youth ambassador Lauren, 19, explained: “As me and my sister were growing up, we have always enjoyed the weekend ritual of going on walks with my mum; being together, enjoying the fresh air and taking the opportunity to connect.

“Discovering an activity we all enjoyed allowed us the space to have conversations about self-confidence, mental wellbeing, and health.”

She added: “We found a way to navigate life’s changes together by using exercise as an outlet to discuss the difficulties of being a teenager, as well as the shifts my mum was experiencing in midlife. Through our conversations, we explored the emotional and physical differences she faced compared to her younger years, deepening our understanding of each other in the process.”
