Salaam Peace launches fasting challenge

To mark the holy Islamic month of Ramadan, Salaam Peace supporters and participants gathered to launch a fasting challenge this week.

Salaam Peace is a community organisation based in East London that delivers sports and education programmes.

During the challenge, participants will have the choice of three fasting options:

Full Fast – No food or drink from sunrise to sunset.

Modified Fast – Breakfast followed by no food or drink until sunset.

Partial Fast – Breakfast followed by water only until sunset.

The initiative allows individuals to experience fasting in a way that suits them while promoting unity, understanding and reflection. Additionally, Salaam Peace will be attending other community events throughout the month, further reinforcing their commitment to fostering inclusivity and shared experiences.

Founder Sab Bham explained: "The holy month encourages greater empathy towards those less fortunate, gratitude for one’s blessings, and an opportunity to work on personal conduct, language, and compassion. The physical challenge of fasting from dawn to sunset also strengthens resilience and discipline.”

Tim Hollingsworth, CEO of Sport England, added: “The Ramadan Challenge that Salaam Peace organises each year is an important moment. It celebrates the contribution of so many to serving our communities and bringing sport and physical activity opportunities to life.  My best wishes to everyone at Salaam Peace for the challenge this year.”
