Coronavirus: Laureus launches 'Online Sharing Community'

Laureus Sport for Good Foundation is creating a weekly ‘Online Sharing Community’ where its partners and other organisations can share concerns about the Coronavirus pandemic.

The communities will be hosted each week at more or less the same time, with the first online event for the UK (and Europe, Middle East and Africa) taking place on Wednesday 25th March at 12 noon GMT. Connect at this link.

Dr Morten Schmidt, Global Director of Programmes and Grants, told ConnectSport: “This is a new situation for everyone, whether we have been affected since the beginning of the year such as China and Hong Kong or only now feel the impact. And we are almost all reacting in similar ways, putting activities on hold, finding ways to retain staff and volunteers, cancelling external engagements, and so on. It also seems that we are all sharing the same concerns about what will happen to the vulnerable kids and young people who participate in our programmes.

“From time to time, though, we do hear about great initiatives and efforts being made to continue engagement, in spite of the difficulties. Setting up these online forums is a way for us to come together and inspire each other in ways to ensure that we are leaving no-one behind in this crisis.”

The Sport for Development Coalition’s monthly Twitter takeover on Monday 30th March will also focus on how organisations are working during the pandemic. Follow the hashtag #SportForDevelopmentCoalition from 8-9pm.
