Premiership football club Brentford has teamed up with Trainline to incentivise its supporters to travel by train to away matches and reduce their carbon footprint.
Through the ‘I came by train’ initiative, fans will be able to save 20% on the price of a single or return ticket.
The collaboration, which will run for the remainder of the season, follows the positive response received to the trial which the club ran for fixtures against Manchester City and Manchester United earlier this year.
I came by train, supported by Trainline, is a collective movement helping to fight climate change. According to the campaign, taking the train creates 67 per cent less carbon dioxide than driving.
Brentford sustainability manager James Beale said: “We’re pleased to be the first Premier League football club to be working with I came by train and Trainline on this positive initiative.
“Making our club more sustainable goes beyond what we do at our stadium, it’s also about the travel choices we all make.
"How fans travel can have a big impact on our carbon footprint. We’re hopeful that this initiative makes it easier and cheaper for fans to make a better choice on travel for the environment.
“We encourage Brentford fans to take up the offer this season and provide their invaluable support for the Bees away from home.”
Natalie Marques, I came by train’s head of sustainability, added: “About 55% of football fans travel to matches by car, and as a nation, the most impactful thing we can do to reduce our carbon emissions is change the way we travel.
"Swapping just one journey from the car to the train can have a significant effect on the environment.
"By partnering with Brentford to offer the fans this exclusive discount for away matches, we can help them secure great value travel and reduce their carbon footprint, all whilst supporting their team away from home.”
