Wolverhampton Judo Club
One of the UK's premier judo clubs

Founded in 1966, Wolverhampton Judo Club is one of the city's longest-established community sports organisations and a powerful example of how sport creates confidence, belonging and opportunity. Recognised as the British Judo Association's Club of the Year (2006–07), the club has spent six decades welcoming people of all ages and abilities, from children taking their first steps into sport to international competitors.

More than a place to train, the club provides a safe, inclusive environment where discipline, respect and resilience are developed alongside physical skills. Sessions are open to people from the age of five, including participants with additional needs, supported by qualified, DBS-checked coaches committed to high standards of safeguarding and development.

The club's legacy extends well beyond medals. It has produced Olympic and World Championship athletes and coaches, while continuing to invest in grassroots participation through family sessions, community outreach and quality accreditation.

For Sport for Change Wolverhampton, Wolverhampton Judo Club demonstrates how a trusted community organisation can improve health, build confidence, strengthen social connections and inspire aspiration across generations - showing that sport is not only about performance, but about creating stronger people and stronger communities.
