Run2Happiness

Run2Happiness is an inspiring community initiative that forms part of the Sport for Change Wolverhampton network. Founded by local runner John Dixon, the project uses running, walking and physical activity as tools to improve mental health, wellbeing and social connection across the city. John’s own experience of recovery through running highlights the positive impact that physical activity can have on people facing personal challenges, including addiction and poor mental health.

The group provides a welcoming and inclusive environment where people of all ages and abilities can take part in regular running sessions. Rather than focusing solely on fitness or performance, Run2Happiness emphasises wellbeing, confidence building and creating supportive relationships within the community. Participants are encouraged to become more active, improve their physical health and develop positive habits that contribute to a healthier lifestyle.

As a network member of Sport for Change Wolverhampton, Run2Happiness demonstrates how sport can be used to address wider social issues such as loneliness, social isolation and mental health inequalities. The project contributes to the network’s vision of creating a happier, healthier and more connected city through community-led physical activity programmes. By bringing people together through running, Run2Happiness is helping individuals improve their wellbeing while strengthening community spirit across Wolverhampton.
