Hope Community Project
Supporting families, children, young people and older people in Heath Town

Hope Community Project in Heath Town, Wolverhampton, is an important example of how community organisations can use sport and physical activity as tools for positive social change. Established in 1985, the project has spent decades supporting families, young people and vulnerable residents through outreach work, education, volunteering and wellbeing initiatives. The organisation’s approach reflects the wider ‘sport for change’ movement in Wolverhampton, where sport is used not only to improve physical health, but also to strengthen communities, reduce isolation and build confidence.

Through programmes such as bike repair and cycling initiatives, Hope Community Project encourages participation, teamwork and skill development among local residents. The ‘Heath Town Spokes and Skills’ programme demonstrates how sport-related activity can improve employability, mental wellbeing and social inclusion while bringing people together around shared goals.

The project also supports young people through group activities and safe community spaces, helping to tackle issues linked to deprivation, crime and poor health in Heath Town. By combining physical activity with mentoring, volunteering and community engagement, Hope Community Project shows how grassroots organisations can create long-term social impact. Its work highlights the power of sport and active lifestyles to inspire resilience, community pride and opportunity across Wolverhampton.
