Ethnic Minority Council (EMC) plays a vital role in strengthening communities across Wolverhampton by promoting equality, inclusion, leadership and collaboration between diverse ethnic minority communities and local organisations. Through training, advocacy, volunteering opportunities and community development support, EMC helps create a more connected and empowered city where people from different cultural backgrounds can actively participate in shaping local services and opportunities.
This work connects naturally with the aims of Sport for Change Wolverhampton, a city-wide movement using sport and physical activity to improve wellbeing, reduce inequalities, build confidence and strengthen social cohesion. By partnering with local sports clubs, youth groups and community organisations, EMC helps increase engagement from underrepresented communities in sport-based programmes, ensuring activities are culturally inclusive and accessible.
Sport has the power to bring communities together regardless of language, faith or background. EMC’s trusted relationships with local communities could support projects focused on youth development, women’s participation, mental wellbeing and tackling social isolation through football, boxing, martial arts and other community activities. Together, EMC and Sport for Change Wolverhampton can help create healthier, more united and more resilient communities across the city.
