EMD UK, the national governing body for group exercise, have a mission to increase participation in group exercise. We work with a variety of instructors, organisations, local authorities and others to increase the opportunities for people to take part in group exercise classes.
Group exercise is an exciting and diverse mix of styles and activities that caters to ‘someone like me’ and everyone should have the opportunity to take part. EMD UK is committed to driving positive change within the industry and we believe that through cooperation and collaboration with industry bodies, understanding and removing the barriers that prevent people from taking part and by supporting instructors to deliver excellence, we can achieve a healthier nation through exercise.
We work on a variety of different projects, aimed at encouraging more people to get active through group exercise. The opportunities we provide create positive impacts on the health of many. We work closely with This Girl Can and the NHS, as well as Sport England projects to get inactive people moving. For example, our Barnet Bopping project inspired the paediatric ward at North Barnet hospital to get active through dance. It also broke down barriers between patients, relatives and medical staff. Find out more about this project here.
We’re also a training provider, offered nationally recognised Active IQ fitness instructing qualifications. We support instructors throughout their career, offering guidance, resources and a dedicated support team along the way.
