The London Otters is an inclusive rowing club established to help break down some of the barriers that prevent LGBTQ+ individuals from getting involved in sport, along with those who have found it difficult to access the sport in a more traditional way.
We are based in East London, our membership base is broad and includes male, female, gay, lesbian and straight rowers ranging from the ages of 18 to 60, most of whom joined the club as complete beginners through our Learn to Row Scheme.
Members of the LGBTQ community are two and a half times more likely than heterosexuals, to experience mental health issues and the physical and mental benefits of participating in a sport like rowing is well established.
We are reaching capacity and in order for us to continue to support the LGBTQ+ community and their allies we need to purchase new vital equipment.
